In 1953, Dior hired Yves Saint Laurent as an assistant, and though he was given the most menial, mundane tasks, his similarity in style to Dior caught his eye. In August of 1957, only months before his sudden death in October, Dior chose Saint Laurent to be his successor, a decision that ultimately saved the Christian Dior brand from immediate financial ruin upon his demise.
